Smoked Prime Rib on a Traeger Smoker
Learn how to perfectly smoke a prime rib on a Traeger Smoker for a delicious and flavorful main course.
- Prime rib roast (1 (about 10-12 lbs))
- Olive oil (2 tablespoons)
- Salt (2 tablespoons)
- Black pepper (1 tablespoon)
- Garlic powder (1 tablespoon)
- Onion powder (1 tablespoon)
- Paprika (1 tablespoon)
- Wood chips (hickory or oak) (2 cups)

Prepare the Prime Rib 1. Preheat your Traeger smoker to 225°F (107°C).
2. Trim excess fat from the prime rib roast, leaving a thin layer.
3. Rub the olive oil all over the roast, ensuring it is evenly coated.
4. In a small bowl, combine the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Mix well.

Smoke the Prime Rib 1. Place the prime rib roast directly on the grill grate, fat-side up.
2. Add wood chips (hickory or oak) to the Traeger smoker according to the manufacturer's instructions.
3. Close the lid and smoke the prime rib for approximately 3-4 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 135°F (57°C) for medium-rare.
